Mission Statement

We are a community advocacy organization that is opposed to constructing cell phone towers on Anne Arundel County school properties.

In 2012, the Anne Arundel County Board of Education signed and approved a Master Lease Agreement with Milestone Communications. This agreement states that EVERY SINGLE PUBLIC SCHOOL IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY is a potential target location for up to 3 cell phone towers.

Fake curriculum used as part of application to Maryland Critical Area Commission

Feb 25, 2015 — This tower project is up for review by the Maryland Critical Area Commission since it will be located 200 feet from Mill Creek which feeds into the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. The Commission is meeting on March 4th and will be discussing this application. Please email charlotte.shearin@maryland.gov(part of the commission), and AA county executive Steve Schuhexschu00@aacounty.org about your opposition to this tower!

The Maryland Critical Area Commission has received a request to approve the construction of a cell tower on the Magothy River Middle School playground. Magothy River Middle School is in Anne Arundel County and sits within the land that is part of the Critical Area of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Parents' Coalition has obtained a copy of the application and discovered that non-existent curriculum is being used as a "special circumstance" to justify the approval of this construction project by the Critical Area Commission.

It is unconscionable that fake curriculum is being used to justify the construction of a commercial structure on a public school playground.

The documents obtained in our research are available at this link:

The Magothy River Middle School cell tower application before the Maryland Critical Area Commission should be withdrawn immediately.

If an application is to be made to the Maryland Critical Area Commission it should only contain independently verifiable facts so that the Commission can base their decision on facts and not fantasy.

Success: Proposal for Cell Tower at Piney Orchard Elementary School withdrawn on January 23, 2014

In March 2013, Verizon Wireless proposed to erect a 99 ft. tall cell phone tower on Piney Orchard Elementary School property in Odenton, MD. Many parents whose children attend the elementary school, as well as many residents who live in the surrounding neighborhoods are strongly opposed to installing a cell phone tower in this location. For nine months, these concerned parents and neighbors voiced their opposition by speaking out at AA Co Board of Ed meetings, County Council meetings and community meetings, as well as writing letters to the Board of Ed & Superintendent of Schools, Piney Orchard Community Association, District 21 Legislative Representatives, County Council Members, Milestone Communications and Verizon Wireless.

On January 23, 2014, Milestone Communications sent the following letter to the AA Co Board of Education:

January 23, 2014

Ms. Teresa M. Birge, President

Anne Arundel County Board of Education

2644 Riva Road

Annapolis, Maryland 21401

Dear Ms. Birge:

This letter is written to formally notify the Anne Arundel County Board of Education that Verizon and Milestone have chosen to withdraw the proposal for a tower at Piney Orchard Elementary School. We have revisited the placement of the tower on the site with AACPS Staff. The zoning setbacks for the property restrict the placement of the tower to the middle of the property, where it would interfere with school operations and outdoor programming. After consultation with the School Principal and staff, we have evaluated the option to move the tower toward the tree line further south than the original proposed location. This option would require a variance from the zoning setbacks and place the structure closer to neighboring homes. Due to these site constraints, we are withdrawing our proposal for a tower at Piney Orchard Elementary School from consideration by the Board.

Your Child’s School Could be Next

If you have, or will have, a child or family member in a public school ANYWHERE, then you need to be aware that County School Boards ALL ACROSS THE U.S. are entering into master lease agreements to potentially lease the properties of EVERY SCHOOL in their county to wireless companies for constructing cellular phone towers on the school property. It seems that new studies are emerging all the time that show strong correlations between cell tower emissions and increased health risks, especially for young children.

We Need Fundraising Help

We need to raise money to cover the attorney fees that we have incurred so far, and these fees will likely increase as this battle wages on. We are also paying monthly website maintenance fees and incurring costs to print flyers, handouts and other support materials. Please visit our fundraising page and make a donation to support our statewide fight against cell towers at schools:
